John Beilein announced Wednesday that he will be returning to Michigan next season, spurning the Detroit Pistons after interviewing for their head coaching vacancy last week.

I love the University of Michigan and I am excited about coaching our Men’s Basketball Team next season and in the years to come ! Let’s go hang some more banners at “THE GREATEST UNIVERSITY IN THE WORLD “#GoBlue— John Beilein (@JohnBeilein) June 6, 2018

Prior to his announcement, Beilein was considered a top candidate to replace Stan Van Gundy as Pistons head coach, along with former Toronto Raptors bench boss Dwane Casey and San Antonio Spurs assistant Ime Udoka, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Beilein led the Wolverines (33-8) to the national championship game this past campaign before falling to Villanova. He has a combined 248-143 record over 11 seasons as Michigan head coach.
