Dan Harmon Grants Kanye West A Rick and Morty Episode All To Himself
Dan Harmon has offered Kanye West an open invitation to come in and let his ideas run amok in an exclusively “Kanye” episode of Rick and Morty.
The offer occurred during an interview with The Blast following the Warner Media upfront, where Rick and Morty season four’s release window was announced.
Rick and Morty creators, Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland were asked by Blast reporter Adam Glyn if they’d be interested in collaborating with West. In the past, West has referred to Rick and Morty as “his favorite show.” Following the reporter's question, Harmon and Roiland immediately praised West. Roiland gushed to the interviewer, “We f**king love West...” calling the rapper a “genius” and “visionary.” Harmon added that West was a “kindred spirit.”
Roiland went as far to say that “If that guy[West] had the support to do all the ideas he has in his head, it would be f**king Elon Musk 2.0.”
Circling back to the initial question, Roiland and Harmon initially agreed that the rapper should come “come hang out and do a voice.” Harmon then escalated the situation by stating, “I’m giving him an episode, I’m making it official. We have 70, he can have one. Kanye, you can have an episode!”
The two then discussed bringing the rapper into the writer’s room and having him write an episode alongside both Roiland and Harmon.
During a conversation with Warner Media’s Alicia Malone, the Rick and Morty creators also extended an invitation to Harry Potter superstar, Daniel Radcliffe to come on Rick and Morty. Unlike with West, they didn’t promise to brand an episode the “Radcliffe episode," but according to Harmon and Roiland, the actor is always welcome to drop by the writer's room and “try out a few characters.”
Malone later relayed the offer to Daniel Radcliffe himself, prompting the actor to thank her profusely for helping matchmake him with the Harmon and Roiland.
Both Radcliffe and West have expressed their extreme fanaticism for the Adult Swim sci-fi comedy in the past. During an interview with Den of Geek, Radcliffe was able to recite Morty’s speech from the episode "Rixty Minutes," where he says “Nobody exists on purpose, nobody belongs anywhere, and everybody’s going to die. Come watch TV” on command. There’s also an album of photos where Radcliffe is wearing a Rick and Morty t-shirt featuring that exact quote.
West has exhibited his love for the show a bit more actively than Radcliffe’s T-Shirt did. In the past, he has made multiple posts on Twitter about the show. Famously, the rapper posted an illustration of how he and his wife, Kim Kardashian-West would look like as Rick and Morty characters. Kardashian-West also commissioned Roiland to record a tune where Rick and Morty wish West a happy birthday.
Only time will tell if Daniel Radcliffe or West actually do receive episodes centered around them. Rick and Morty season four premieres this November on Adult Swim.
