The New York Jets dropped a huge piece of news on Wednesday morning, announcing that they have fired general manager Mike Maccagnan. The timing of the move is especially shocking, considering the draft and free agency are in the rear-view mirror.

Maccagnan still had two years left on his contract, but a reported rift between him and coach Adam Gase led to his demise. Now, Gase will take over as interim GM until a permanent one is hired.

Fans and media members were caught off guard by Maccagnan’s firing and had quite the reactions on Twitter.

So who was calling the shots for the Jets during the 2019 Draft? Gase? Future internal hire GM?

Clearly, there was strife in the organization, which the #Jets denied. Now the truth is out. It’s a stunner because they empowered Maccagnan to spend $125M and make the No. 3 pick in the draft.

The #Jets have let their last two GMs tear it down then haven’t let them finish the rebuild. Tough to sustain success that way. We’ll see where they go from here.

Adam Gase went from coaching the #Dolphins to a 13-19 record the past two seasons to running the #Jets all by himself. Head coach and active GM.

How do you allow Maccagnan to preside over this entire offseason just to fire him a few weeks after the draft? #Jets

Jets on Hard Knocks…make it happen.

Apparently the Jets really aren’t taking it well that Zion isn’t coming to New York

Me: ahh, the middle of May, time to take a breather

The Jets: we fired everyone today
