Spoilers for the Riverdale Season 3 finale “Chapter Fifty-Seven: Survive The Night” past this point.

Is Cole Sprouse leaving Riverdale? Is Jughead dead? Is there even going to be a Season 4 of Riverdale????

Fans are understandably freaking out tonight as a last second twist in the Season 3 finale saw the gang flashing forward to Spring Break next year. Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) was present, along with Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), and Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes). All three were dressed in their underwear, covered in blood, with Jughead (Sprouse) nowhere to be seen. Only there was a piece of him around, specifically his signature crown beanie.

Betty told the gang they needed to burn their clothes, including the beanie, and never speak of whatever happened again, parting ways after graduation. Then they flashed back to the present day, all happy smiles and drinking milkshakes.

Yikes! So the implication is clear: Jughead Jones is dead on Riverdale, that’s a series wrap on Cole Sprouse, show canceled… Right?

Let’s deal with these one at a time:

Is there going to be a Season 4 of Riverdale?

Yep, that’s a done deal. Though we don’t know exactly when it’ll premiere, and the schedule won’t be announced until tomorrow’s (May 16) CW Upfront presentation here in New York, when the network shows off their shows to advertisers, Riverdale Season 4 is a go.

Is Cole Sprouse leaving Riverdale?

At the very least, Sprouse will be on the show up until this flash-forward event. As we found out from showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa during our interview with him about the finale, Spring Break happens about midway through the season, then we link up with the flash-forward, and the second half of the season follows up on that.

We’ll get to the lingering question here in a moment, but short version is you’ll be seeing Sprouse next year. At least for part of the year.

Is Jughead dead on Riverdale?

Ah, feels like we were just asking this question a year ago. And then again about Archie. In fact, this is a frequent storytelling trope the show has pulled on. And not that it’s afraid of killing off characters, but in nearly every case where you don’t see a body, that person is very much alive.

Look no further than tonight’s episode, where Chic (Hart Denton), who was presumed dead last season after being chased off-screen by a serial killer, turned out to be very much alive.

To that point, I don’t know for sure, mainly since the writers didn’t start gathering until this past Monday to plot out the season, but Jughead Jones is almost certainly not going to die next year on Riverdale. That’s what they’re implying, what they want you to think; but Jughead is too important of a character to the Archie Comics mythos to be killed off. End up in bad shape? Sure. Presumed dead (again)? Maybe.

But Jughead Jones is not dead on Riverdale, Cole Sprouse is not leaving Riverdale, and by god, Riverdale is going to run for FIVE HUNDRED MORE SEASONS.

Okay, may have overshot it a bit with that one, but you get the gist.
