Hot west of the Mississippi, mostly cooler and unsettled east
The tropics are settling down and look to be mainly quiet for the next couple of weeks. Hot high pressure will be taking over in Texas and Oklahoma for a while, and the heat will spread into the lower and middle Mississippi Valley at times through the next week or so. Areas farther east, fronts will move in to keep the heat at bay and cause periods of wet weather. It looks as though a front stalling near the East Coast will pull in tropical moisture and cause a more significant period of soaking rain starting next weekend.
