The produce is insanely fresh.

If you feel like the fruits and veggies you're buying from Wegmans are fresher than in other stores, you're not wrong. The Strategic Resource Group says that your typical Wegmans store turns over their produce selection about 100 times a year, compared to other supermarkets who do only 18 to 20 times a year - that makes a huge difference.

The cheese tastes better for a reason.

Going to Wegmans for the first time? Make sure to hit up the cheese selection, where you'll find some truly unique and delicious options. In 2014, the grocery chain built their own cheese cave near Rochester, New York (where they originated). The cheese cave is inside a climate-controlled building that was made to replicate European suppliers' aging techniques. There are seven "caves" for soft and washed-rind cheeses that are ripened separately to keep their flavors distinct, and an entire room dedicated to brie. Romana Klee - Flickr

The prices are legitimately cheaper than other grocery stores.

Is it really possible for food to be fresher and cheaper than competing stores? At Wegmans, the answer is yes. According to the Washington Post, an independent analysis of prices at grocery chains found that the prices at Wegmans were 13 percent lower than the average prices at places like Giant and Safeway. They're able to do this thanks to their high turnover rate, the fact that they rely more on private brands rather than big brands, and their self-reliant nature when it comes to distribution. Whatever the case, it means your groceries are going to be less expensive. JEWEL SAMAD - Getty Images

Their digital coupons are clutch.

Wegmans also makes it really easy to save money by offering some amazing coupons and deals. If you don't check for coupons before heading to the store, you should. One Wegmans employee in New Jersey told Business Insider, "Take an extra two minutes out of your day to sign up for or check the digital coupons the store offers. They're always on commonly-used products."

You should definitely buy the house brand.

For most of the items in the stores, Wegmans offers their own privately-owned house brand, and purchasing these is worth it. Not only are they significantly cheaper, they're also very good quality. One writer at Food & Wine says, "A savvy shopper feeding a non-picky family really could clean up here, all without having to go to Costco." JEWEL SAMAD - Getty Images

Make sure to join the Shopper's Club.

Membership for Wegmans' Shoppers Club is actually worth signing up for. It offers perks like special, members-only mailings and digital coupon offers that are based on what you purchase most often instead of things you're not interested in. Plus, you have the ability to create shopping lists organized by aisle. If you go often, or even just once in a while, it's silly not to be a member. andipantz - Getty Images

Download the app to make shopping easier.

The mobile app (it's available for Apple and Android) allows you to create shopping lists, bookmark items from past purchases, scan items directly into your list, access your Shoppers Club card, check out menus and recipes, and sort items based on store locations. It basically just makes your shopping experience much easier and more organized.

They'll cut your fruits and veggies for you if you ask.

Wegmans already has a giant selection of pre-cut veggies, and even a section for fresh veggie noodles. But they also go the extra mile for anyone who wants to avoid chopping completely. According to New Jersey Family, you can bring any item to their cutting counter and they will slice it and dice it for you.

They support local farmers.

Another reason a lot of the produce is so top-notch is because Wegmans supports local farmers, meaning the products really are super fresh, as they're grown in your area. They also run their own organic farm in upstate New York. Boston Globe - Getty Images

The stores are gigantic.

Before you walk into a Wegmans, make sure you have a lot of time on your hands (especially if it's your first visit), because the stores are truly massive. According to Kiplinger, the stores can range in size from 75,000 square feet to 140,000 square feet, which is at least double the size of most supermarkets. According to Washington Post, "Inside each Wegmans is the equivalent of 8 to 10 other supermarkets. The produce department by itself in Wegmans store is twice as big as the total supermarket store volume of its average competitors in the U.S."

You can double-up your coupons.

On top of their competitive prices, Wegmans also has terrific coupon policies. Customers can stack coupons, meaning they can use multiple coupons in one transaction. Wegmans will also double any manufacturer's coupon valued at 99 cents or less. There are some rules attached, like you can't double the coupon if it exceeds retail price, and you can only use four manufacturer's coupons on four of the same product per day. Still, it's a great way to save a few bucks.

They have a very flexible return policy.

Although devout shoppers promise you'll love everything you buy at Wegmans, everyone's taste is different. If you're not a fan of something, you can return it with no hassle. One shopper told Popsugar that you can return things without a receipt with no questions asked.

They have a terrific beer and wine selection.

Wegmans even has great deals on drinks. Although not all of the stores have liquor stores, some do, and those are worth visiting. One shopper told Food & Wine, "their new Hanover, New Jersey store for example, which I also visited recently, has a liquor store so vast, it would require a special trip to make sense of." They are known for their prepared foods.

One thing that makes Wegmans stand out is their prepared food section, which frequent shoppers swear by. Wegmans stores offer everything from sandwiches to pizza, burgers to fresh bakery items. There are buffets so you can grab lunch or dinner there, and some stores even have restaurant setups. They have everything you can think of, and the prices and quality are worth raving about. They offer personal shopping services.

If you don't actually have time to go to Wegmans, you can still get your food from Wegmans. The company offers a personal shopping experience where you can make a shopping list, then have everything packed up and delivered to your car. The service costs only $5.94 with no minimum order, although it isn't available at every store. You can even get the orders delivered to your home!

People go nuts when a new stores opens.

Wegmans is an East Cost chain, with less than 100 locations. Their popularity means that every new location causes a big stir, not only for customers, but for potential employees. According to Philadelphia Business Journal, a new location that opened in Montgomeryville, Pennsylvania in 2013 received 10,000 applications with only 500 available slots. The Washington Post - Getty Images

Being an employee comes with major benefits

The reason so many people apply to Wegmans is simple: they have a terrific work culture and wonderful employee benefits and perks. Syracuse.com says that the company has given out nearly $100 million in scholarships to over 30,000 workers since 1984. The chain usually tops the list of the best places to work in the United States because of the way they treat their employees, and it shows in their stellar customer service.

It's a family-owned business

Another great thing about Wegmans is that it has always stayed true to its roots. The chain originated back in 1916, when brothers Walter and John Wegman started selling fresh produce in their hometown of Rochester, NY. Since then, the company has remained privately owned and family operated, even though it's unusual to see a major supermarket stick to that model.
