Hollywood Unions Stand In Solidarity With LA Teachers On Eve Of Potential Strike
Hollywood unions are lining up in support of the Los Angeles Unified School District’s teachers, who appear likely to strike on Monday.
Negotiations between the teachers union and the Los Angeles Unified School District ended Friday without a deal. Los Angeles Schools Superintendent Austin Beutner had a revised offer for the union, but apparently failed to reach an agreement.
Issues in the labor dispute center include a raise for teachers, five-day a week nursing in the schools, increased hiring of teachers to reduce classroom sizes, plus funding for librarians and academic counselors at the high schools.
SAG-AFTRA issued an early blast on its official Twitter account. “We stand with our sisters and brothers of @UTLAnow as they fight for a fair contract, smaller class sizes, full & equitable funding to support students, and RESPECT. Their fight is our fight!”
The American Federation of Musicians Local 47 also chimed in.
