Taylor Swift Reveals 'The Trick to Holding On' in Poem Written for 'Vogue'
One of Taylor Swift’s main appeals is that she is undoubtedly a wordsmith. Since the start of her career, her lyrics have given fans a glimpse into the pop star’s mind and the wide range of human emotion. She now brings her silver tongue into a new medium: print journalism.
In the January issue of Vogue, cover girl Swift dropped the idea of a feature article and instead opted for a poem. The themes of “The Trick to Holding On” directly parallel those of her latest Reputation album, that the key to a happy life is removing the toxic people and being okay with change.
Read the first section of Swift’s poem below, and read the full thing on Vogue:
Let go of the ones who hurt you
Let go of the ones you outgrow
Let go of the words they hurl your way
as you’re walking out the door
The only thing cut and dry
In this hedge-maze life
Is the fact that their words will cut
but your tears will dry
