A Missouri woman is jailed after allegedly telling police she accidentally shot her boyfriend in the face, killing him, while acting out a movie scene, PEOPLE confirms.

According to a Fulton police probable cause statement obtained by PEOPLE, detectives responded to a call at 10:22 p.m. last Friday to discover David Dalton, 36, inside his bedroom with a gunshot wound to his head. His girlfriend Kalesha Peterson told allegedly detectives they had been drinking whiskey and she accidentally shot her boyfriend. Medics arrived and declared him dead at the scene.

Peterson, 37, was arrested and taken to jail where she is waiting to be officially charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of unlawful use of a weapon, an official from the Callaway County Circuit Clerk’s office confirms to PEOPLE.

During an interview with detectives, Peterson allegedly said she and Dalton had been watching a movie and drinking alcohol when her boyfriend suggested they act out a scene, which involved a firearm.

“[They] retrieved a handgun kept in the bedroom to act out the scene,” the probable cause statement asserts. “Peterson stated that she had the gun in her hand when the gun discharged.”

The statement did not mention which movie the pair was watching.

Peterson told detectives she had been drinking and “voluntarily submitted a breath sample,” the statement alleged. She also told officials she was taking several medications, which are known to increase impairment when used with alcoholic beverages, the statement continued.

Peterson has not been arraigned and is currently being held in the Callaway County jail without bond. It was unclear whether she has obtained an attorney.
