In astrology, eclipses are symbolic of a shift in your perspective on life, your goals, and your relationships. Lunar eclipses, like the one from a few weeks ago, represent the beginning of a certain situation’s end (like a job or a partnership). On the other hand, solar eclipses bring bright opportunities and open new doors, but to take advantage of this fresh start, you may need to let go of something or someone first.
During a solar eclipse, your world can feel temporarily turned upside-down by uncontrollable circumstances. Unexpected people may become more significant while long-term relationships fall apart. A new potential relationship might only appear after a current one is over, including transitioning from friends to romantic partners. Career-wise, you may leave your current job, but only because of a surprise promotion or exciting new role at a different company.
This solar eclipse will be the penultimate one in the Leo/Aquarius cycle that began in 2016, and after this, there won’t be another Leo or Aquarius eclipse until 2026! The signs of Leo and Aquarius revolve around the archetype of relationships and individuality, so these past couple of years brought particularly heavy changes to your love life and friendships–ones that you may have to reevaluate now. Leo and Aquarius will be effected the most by this eclipse, followed by fellow fixed, stubborn signs Taurus and Scorpio. If you have access to your personal birth chart and have any planets or points at 15º - 21º Leo, you will also feel this eclipse’s impact!
On top of the seven out of eight planets in retrograde right now, the Sun, Moon, and Mercury retrograde are huddled up together in dramatic Leo. The Moon represents your mood and feelings, but Mercury rules over your intelligence and logic. When you combine the two, it can result in being passionately involved in conversations with others and initiating important talks about how you feel–all very important in reaching the changes to come from a solar eclipse.
But tread carefully: These planets are also all forming a square–harsh energy coming from a tense angle–with Jupiter, the planet of abundance and expansion. Jupiter will make you feel more optimistic and confident, but Mercury retrograde messes up your ability to think logically. You may commit to some impractical goals or make some rash decisions. Your ego will be bigger than normal as well, but it will be equally more fragile-try not to take anything personally today, because everyone else is feeling soft, too. Expansive Jupiter can also make the news that typically comes with an eclipse appear more exaggerated or shocking than it actually is, so really take your time processing everything.
The other big influence during this eclipse in an awkward angle shared between the Sun and Pluto-the planet of sudden change, transformation, and intensity. Feelings and stress build up until the pressure is too much to handle, then BOOM! Sudden changes in your friend group or love life can throw you for a loop! If there’s a power struggle between you and someone else, an unexpected event from this eclipse can lead to the end of a relationship. With all of the retrograde action in the cosmos, people from your past can easily reappear and cause a commotion before the summer ends. You’re offered the chance to pick up from where you left off, or cut old ties once and for all.
The heightened sensitivity and exaggerated, bold, opinionated mindset of this eclipse can instigate explosive changes. Minor disagreements become all-out fights, issues you bottled up can no longer able to be ignored, and there’s a need to fully express all of your thoughts and feelings to others. Exercising moderation and being considerate of your loved ones are especially difficult during this period, but also necessary to hold your relationships together. Adopting a growth-oriented mindset and experiencing sudden changes can be scary, for sure, but the universe aims to keep you on the right track to achieve your goals, experience healthy and loving relationships, and transform you into the best version of yourself. Good luck!
