USC's Masina gets year in jail for Utah sex assault
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) A suspended University of Southern California football player who pleaded guilty to misdemeanor sexual assault has been sentenced to one year in a Utah jail.
The Deseret News reports that 20-year-old Osa Masina, a Utah native, was sentenced Tuesday for three counts of sexual battery.
He is accused of raping a woman in Utah after a party with friends. The woman said she never gave consent to sex and suffered physical injuries.
The suspended USC linebacker said he believed the sex was consensual.
Masina's attorney, Greg Skordas, said after the hearing that he was disappointed with the sentence and expected a more lenient term.
The victim spoke in court about the pain Masina had caused her. The Associated Press doesn't typically name victims of sexual assault.
