The company that created bump stocks is shutting down. Slide Fire Solutions was founded in 2010 by an Air Force veteran. The company is based in Moran, Texas, which has under 300 residents, and is one of the town’s largest employers. The company will stop taking orders and shut down its site May 20. Bump stocks can make a semi-automatic rifle act like a rapid-fire machine gun. The supplier came under criticism after the Las Vegas shooting, the gunman used a bump stock to alter his AR-15 rifle, leading to the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history. Following the shooting, the NRA issued a statement calling for bump stock reform — The Brady Campaign also filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer. After the mass shooting in Parkland, FL, Trump also called for reform, stating, “Just a few moments ago, I signed a memorandum directing the attorney general to propose regulations to ben all devices that turn legal weapons into machine guns.” However, no bans or regulations have been implemented since he made that announcement . Student survivors and their supporters have been particularly vocal about gun reform ever since the shooting in Parkland,, and the company shut-down is evidence that their voices are being heard.
